
Lombok as one of the well known tourists’ destinations in Indonesia visits by many tourists who speak in English. This paper mainly deals with the similarities and dissimilarities of the two languages, SL and English, in the morphological and syntactical levels. This paper is aimed to give a clear understanding about how Sasak language differs from English in the sense of its language features.

Yet, not many English teachers know much about this term and it seems they have found difficulties related to how to conduct a simple contrastive analysis of Sasak and English language. Contrastive analysis has been regarded as main pillars in the domain foreign language acquisition especially in Indonesia. The experience has clearly indicated that the ideas of contrastive analysis play a very decisive role and contribute very much to the successful of teaching English (Koencoro, 2006).

There is a strong belief that almost every one can do it. Teaching English to the Indonesian (Sasak) students is not as difficult as most people imagine. English as foreign language is widely learnt in Indonesia (also in Lombok as one of the Indonesia islands). The differences of linguistic typology of certain languages might be become the obstacle to a learners to understand and comprehend the languages. This condition also appears in Sasak Language and English. Generally speaking, besides having similarity, linguistically languages in the world have many differences. In this world, various languages have their own rules, including English. In other words, language has rules or regulations. So, they have different means of communication called language to reveal the information.Īs a system, language consists of components which regularly piled based on specific pattern. Different tribes or nation will have different types of communication. The reciprocal relation happened between language and mankind. Languages have variety in revealing information. Kata kunci: kontrastif, sintaksis, keergatifan, akusatif Berdasarkan temuan dan analisis, ditemukan bahwa ada bentuk-bentuk dasar bahasa Sasak yang di nol konstruksi (tidak ada nasalisasi), sedangkan dalam bahasa Inggris tidak ada hal nol konstruksi Selanjutnya, di Sasak proses membangun kalimat mengikuti persyaratan keergatifan yang menggunakan PVA (Pasien-Verb-Agen) di satu sisi, tapi kemungkinan akan menggunakan bentuk bahasa akusatif seperti bahasa Inggris yang menggunakan SVO (Subjek-Verb-Object). Sementara, di Sasak, ada terjadi NP-VP, NP-NP, NP-Adv.P.

Dalam bahasa Inggris, proses sintaksis memiliki bentuk NP-VP. Namun, proses sintaksis di Sasak jauh lebih berbeda dibandingkan dengan bahasa Inggris. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa bahasa Inggris dan Sasak menjalani proses konstruksi sintaksis. Penelitian ini menganalisis persamaan dan perbedaan dari konstruksi sintaksis dalam bahasa Inggris dan Sasak. Keywords: contrastive, syntactical, ergativity, accusative Based on the finding and analysis, it is found that there are base forms of Sasak language is in zero construction (no nasalization), while in English there is no terms of zero construction Furthermore, in Sasak the process of constructing a sentence follow the terms ergativity which uses PVA(Patient-Verb-Agent) in one side, but likely will use the form of accusative language just like English which uses SVO (Subject-Verb-Object). Awhile, in Sasak, there occur NP-VP, NP-NP, NP-Adv.P. In English, syntactical process has NP-VP form. However, the syntactical process in Sasak is much more different than that of English. This study shows that both English and Sasak undergo syntactical construction process. This study analyzed the similarities and differences of syntactical constructions in English and Sasak.
